Position Description:
We are seeking a Building Life Safety Plans Examiner to join the Loss Prevention Department (LPD) at Saudi Aramco.

Saudi Aramco is a fully integrated, global, petroleum enterprise, and a world leader in exploration and production, refining, distribution and petrochemicals. LPD provides safety services to customers and stakeholders, including corporate and executive management, Saudi Aramco operating, support and project organizations, employees, the Saudi Arabian government, contractors, and members of the public. LPD has ten divisions seven field divisions and three centralized technical support divisions. Field offices are located in Abqaiq, Riyadh, Ras Tanura, Dhahran, Udhailiyah, Jiddah (including Yanbu and Jazan), and Tanajib.

The Building Life Safety Plans Examiner primary role is to work with planning, design and construction organizations to ensure buildings and safety systems are constructed according to the International Code Council (ICC) model code regulations as adopted and modified by Saudi Aramco and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Minimum Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Science degree in any engineering (or architectural) discipline related to building and fire safety plus 10 years of relevant plan review and inspection experience. This would include areas such as: plan review of building and fire safety, accessibility, mechanical, electrical and fire protection and alarm plans, calculations and specification; required field inspections of rough, final and special construction; evaluation of materials for compliance to ICC requirements; providing continuing education and management presentations; conducting review meetings; mentoring junior staff.

The ability to communicate in technical English with peers as well as members of management, and be able to produce clear and concise oral and written reports in English.

Knowledge of modern building safety systems, processes, and techniques applicable to the engineering and architectural industry; as well as international construction practices, NFPA, ASME, ASTM, ANSI, UL and other standards and specifications.

Desired Competencies

Be able to apply multi-discipline ICC code regulations to building design and construction related to non-structural, life safety aspects of the building code. This includes a working knowledge of disciplines related to building code requirements for related mechanical (dampers, ducts, smoke control), fire protection, civil (fire water, fire truck access) and electrical (access control, fire alarm, standby and emergency power).

Have knowledge of how to evaluate building materials and systems for compliance to third-party testing requirements.

Be able to recognize and document violations to the ICC code regulations during field inspections.

Have experience in delivering ICC code training and presentations to employees and management.

Exhibit problem-solving skills leading to sound judgment and quality decisions.

Maintain accurate, comprehensive and retrievable records.

Have a working knowledge or certification in incident investigation techniques.

Be able to maintain confidentiality of company information related to work activities.

Be able to establish and maintain effective customer service and feedback, communications, professional relationships and accountability.

You are required to perform the following:

Provide support to Saudi Aramco proponent (departmental) organizations to implement the Saudi Aramco Building Code (SABC) to meet the required safety regulations. This support includes assisting proponent organizations with reviews and field inspections of new and existing buildings, interpret applicable codes and standards, evaluate materials, presentations to facility and management staff, evaluation and risk assessments of existing conditions, emergency preparedness, incident investigations, etc.

Conduct field inspections of new buildings under construction and existing building conditions.
Provide proponents and management clear reports communicating safety concerns and work with proponents to develop practical and cost-effective corrective actions.

Participate in various safety studies/activities, such as fire tests, incident investigations, compliance reviews, or insurance surveys including evaluation of risks and potential consequences.

Develop and/or review corporate safety standards, instructions and procedures related to safe building operations and formalize them into company-documented practices as required. These include the adoption of many ICC code regulations with overlay modifications of specific section requirements.

Review designs for new building construction, additions, alterations or changes of occupancy for compliance with ICC, company and industry safety standards.

Assist other units in developing Emergency Response Plans for credible scenarios. Attend proponents emergency drills as observer and provide feedback.

Participate in incident investigations as required and prepare safety improvement recommendations.

Act as a mentor to other loss prevention professionals.
